Job Description

Homer is looking for multi-talented digital designer to help create a ground-breaking tablet-based education experience. This is a great opportunity to help create something that is going to change children’s lives and literacy. At Homer great illustration is essential, not an afterthought.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with a small team of illustrators to illustrate content for tablet product product.

Create digital illustrations for children that captivate and compel users, which are modern but feel traditional and handmade.

Create illustrations that seamlessly fit our brand, under tight deadlines and to the very highest standard.

Execute top quality design work – some template and graphic design work is also required.

MUST HAVE

At least 2-3 years proven experience in digital illustration, plus relevant academic degree.

An exceptional on-line illustration portfolio demonstrating a range of illustrations for print and web;

Strong Adobe Creative Suit skills (Photoshop; Illustrator) with an excellent eye for color, texture, and composition;

Strong storytelling, narrative illustration, and character design skills (both animals and people);

Excellent drawing skills – especially the ability to draw from imagination and create unique characters;

The ability to apply texture to digital illustrations to ensure they feel personal and handmade.

A strong understanding of illustration styles for children, particularly from the 1950s

Able to thrive in a start-up environment, and committed to helping us meet our production goals.

Able to get things done, organize him or herself, and communicate and work well across different teams at our Brooklyn office.
