As a Fashion Designer, you will work with teams located in Newell Rubbermaid’s new 40,000-square-foot design headquarters in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in the Business, Technology and Research Park of Western Michigan. This new facility has been carefully planned to foster creativity and maximize the sharing of ideas and technologies among the company’s brands and process partners. A large, open studio space will provide the ideal environment for designers and engineers to collaborate using advanced software tools. Immersion labs for the company’s priority business segments will enable design and engineering teams to evaluate product prototypes and imagine the possibilities of future product roadmaps. You will collaborate closely with Industrial Designers to create customer experiences for the next generation of consumer products. This person will support efforts to understand emerging trends, seek out real-life insights, conceive user interface design solutions, and assure best in class Design. Strong people skills are required to ensure a smooth transition from Advanced (Strategy) to Segment (Commercialization) Design teams. Additionally, you will partner with the Advanced Technology and Material teams to champion innovative technical solutions that will be incorporated into the product design.
We are looking for a Cad designer who is passionate about consumer driven fashion executions that drive brand equity and consumer preference. The right person will have strong conceptual, 2D visualization (sketching, Cad mock-ups), and communication skills, be comfortable working on fast paced cross-functional teams and have a leadership approach toward the design process. This position will support and work closely with the Fashion Lead to help concept and execute a versatile line of prints, colors and fabrics that are both on trend and saleable for the retail market. This role participates in pre-concept meetings with the design team to help develop well balanced and saleable designs for our targeted market. The position reports to the Fashion Lead.
Print Development: Responsible for researching market and creating designs that are suitable for specified retailers. Must exhibit acute awareness of fashion trends as it relates to market demands with the ability to translate into profitable growth and measurable results. Poses a strong point of view with a sense of style, color and design. Will work closely with the Design Leads and fashion team in selecting and developing prints and color ways that meet the fashion merchandising plan. Actively participate in creating and presenting trend and art concepts to design team and key partners. Delivers print concepts that leverage trend insights that have appropriate cost, brand fit, and win with consumers at the first look and touch through the thoughtful pattern, color and fabric application.
Pre-Production: Collaborates with cross functional teams to make sure designs are manufacturable and meet cost constraints. Provide artwork packages that comply with production ready standards. Use Cad software system to prepare line drawings that provide a clear visual of design intent and execution including pattern and color placement. Preparation of details and loading all specifications into PLM system and Fashion Design integration into the product development process.
Cross Functional Interaction: Key member of the product development team creating consumer preferred fashion designs that deliver core category growth. Collaborate cross functionally with Engineering, Marketing, Sales and other key business functions to develop purpose driven solutions that exceed the expectations of our consumers.
•BFA/ BS or equivalent in Fashion/ textile design.
•Minimum of 3 years design experience working with cross functional teams.
•Proven track record of creativity and innovation.
•Organizational skills, aggressive drive for performance, and extremely high levels of personal accountability are required.
•Working knowledge of computer aided design systems preferably Photoshop and Illustrator.
•Working knowledge of managing specifications in a Project Line Management system.
•Evidence of taking initiative and/or leadership on projects.
•History of working independently and as a member of a cross-functional team.
•Evidence of strong problem solving skills including identify problems, potential problems, and developing solutions.
•Excellent communication, interpersonal, writing, planning, and presentation skills and demonstrated the ability to lead by direct control and influence for positive business outcomes.
•Consumer Products Industry experience.
