The Industrial Designer-Decor is primarily responsible for creating product designs, from concept to production, and providing design expertise within the Customer Experience Design team and the broader Lowe’s organization throughout the design and development process.
The Industrial Designer-Decor will work extensively across organizational functions, partnering across the Customer Experience group, along with the Merchandising, Marketing, Branding, and Sourcing departments. This individual works with these groups to develop product designs that are easy for décor customers to coordinate the looks they want. An individual in this role will also collaborate with a broad network of manufacturing vendors. Additionally, as the product expert this person must collaborate with many teams across the enterprise to ensure strategic design intent is realized and the product benefits are well-communicated across all touch points.
To accomplish this, the Industrial Designer-Decor must be highly skilled in visualization, have a keen eye for form and aesthetics, and a strategic perspective on how individual products and programs can improve customers’ lives by incorporating insights from direct user observation and other forms of consumer research
The Industrial Designer – Décor role contributes directly to the growth of the business through the creation of customer-valued product solutions. Product designs created by this role are proprietary to Lowe’s and build differentiation for the Lowe’s brand in decorative categories. This role also guides our vendors to deliver Lowe’s-specific designs that are desired by our target customers, driving long-term gains in market share, profitability, and loyalty.
Product Design -
•Engages proactively in design exploration, idea sharing, iteration, co-creation and collaboration throughout development of proprietary designs
•Creates human-centered designs that are trend-and-style-right for Lowe’s
•Gains deep knowledge in the product category through category trend analysis, competitive benchmarking and direct consumer research and observation
•Defines Lowe’s proprietary branded products and help visualize the signature elements that will differentiate the brand and communicate its value proposition
•Effectively communicates quality design recommendations to supervisor and the broader CXD team as input to the PLR strategy
•Ensures realization of product design intent by championing product during various execution processes, including sample development, packaging, marketing, photography, and store/multi-channel product presentation
•Contributes to product design briefs and manage work within established timelines and guardrails
•Creates effective visual design guides to inspire and focus vendor partners on the right product designs
•Clearly and consistently specifies key design elements, including form, scale, proportion, finish, color, material
Required Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design
•2 years of professional experience in decorative product design and demonstrable skill in these areas via portfolio work
•2 years experience, High skill level in 2-D graphic software (e.g., Photoshop and Illustrator)
•2 years experience with mass-produced product design/development
•2 years experience and strong Understanding of 3-D software, such as Solidworks and MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
•Functional knowledge of lighting products and product design
•Knowledge of home improvement and interior design aesthetics
