Callisto Media, a startup backed by one of the world’s foremost venture capital firms, is seeking a talented full-time Book Designer. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of growing team of award-winning Designers at the forefront of a new publishing venture. The ideal candidate will have proven experience creating book covers and interiors in both print and e-book formats, solid production skills, and an established track record in collaborating successfully with in-house editorial teams.

Responsibilities
-Report to the Creative Director and collaborate closely with Design and Editorial colleagues
-Create book designs to conform to company-defined objectives
-Produce cover mechanicals and print-ready files
-Specify and manage acquisition of stock photography
-Create and adapt interior design templates and review composed pages
-Adhere to demanding design schedules
-Assist in e-book design and production
-Provide support to Creative Director on additional production, design, and administrative tasks

Requirements
-At least 3 years book design experience, preferably in Trade publishing
-Strong conceptual thinking and design proficiency with great attention to detail
-Extensive knowledge of typography and proper typesetting conventions
-Solid book production and pre-press skills, with knowledge of latest software and technologies
-Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
-Superior organizational skills with ability to multi-task, prioritize assignments, and meet tight deadlines
-Ability to take initiative while also working collaboratively with Design and Editorial colleagues
-Adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic startup environment
-Expert proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
-Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or equivalent education and experience
