Job Description

As a member of our Furniture Design team, the Furniture Design Engineer will work side by side with a Creative Director and a Furniture Designer in a top-tier Design Studio in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. The Furniture Design Engineer should have design related engineering expertise to support the department throughout the design process. This position will be primarily based in our New York City Studio location.

Job Responsibilities:
• Generate samples of upholstery pieces, lighting products and case goods using tools like 3D modeling, 2D drafting, cartboard and a 3D printer
• Evaluate safety of furniture pieces including glass and metal components and elaborate data such as maximum loads
• Prepare detailed final CAD drawing sets and 3D files for production
• Communicate with multiple factories and suppliers during the process of design, prototyping and manufacturing
• Have an extensive and detailed knowledge about residential upholstery construction techniques, woodworking and cabinet making
• Have a good knowledge of the quality standards required to be competitive in the top-tier residential furniture market.
• Elaborate CAD drawings of custom furniture pieces
• Evaluate issues such as pricing and fixing costs, wearing of finishes over time, purchasing, safety, materials and manufacturing methods and techniques
• Make plans and schedules for production of prototypes and pre-production lots
• Develop packaging designs
• Complete special projects as needed for Design Department

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with a concentration in Engineering or Interior Design
• Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience
• Mastery of SOLID WORKS and / or SOLID EDGE and / or INVENTOR required
• Mastery of AutoCAD 2D required
• Proficiency with T-SPLINE FOR RHINOCEROS, BLENDER, 3D STUDIO MAX, and / or MODO required
• Proficiency in 3D RENDERING SOFTWARE (KeyShot preferred) required
• Competency in RHINOCEROS, ILLUSTRATOR, and PHOTOSHOP is preferred

• Ability to use critical thinking and analytical skills for approaching problems and making decisions
