Lead UX Designer
We are looking for a talented Lead UX/Interaction Designer to join our Emerging Technologies Experiences team at IBM Research, in Yorktown, NY (Designer tidbit: you’ll be working out of the T J Watson Research Center, a historical building by Eero Saarinen).
We bring art, science, and engineering together to design and develop the next generation of emerging experiences. Our team is on mission to help the world to experience, engage and interact with the cutting edge technologies generated by our scientist at IBM Research.
We believe that amazing UX and storytelling defines and shapes the future and can change the world, and it all starts with you. People are at the center of everything we do and we diligently craft a work environment that inspires brilliant and thoughtful work. We want to bring out the best in you and expect you to do the same to us.
You are first and foremost a story teller who understands and advocates for the importance of user experience and role of interaction design in developing new concepts, products and digital experiences. You are familiar with user-centric design processes on a practical level, and with your interaction design skills you are able to compress new concepts and complex flows into easily understandable and realizable forms. You have a strong track record and portfolio that proves that you live and breathe user-centric design best practices. With your UX and interaction design skills you are able to turn any visual design into a delightful experience.
You enjoy solving the toughest design challenges together with the other designers, developers, and researchers, but you can also take responsibility independently. You have a good understanding of technical challenges and the basics of software development. You work well under pressure and are able to keep deadlines in a changing working environment. You are an advocate of agile and lean UX, quick lifecycles, and lots of iterations. Nobody will surprise you with the latest design trends, you knew them before everyone else found out.
At IBM Research, you get to work on the most cutting-edge and exciting projects and interact with the brightest minds (including some Nobel laureates). Your proactive approach to creative problem solving will be essential to the success of our team and the company.

Exceptional experience in design and implementation of interactive prototypes
Diverse interaction design portfolio representing work conducted for various different platforms & devices
Strong understanding of usability and user centered design processes and practices
Proficiency of creating interactive designs with appropriate software toolbox
