Model / Prototype Maker

simplehuman is looking for a Model Maker to join our Product Development team. S/he will be part of a multi-disciplinary group of product managers, engineers, and designers that develop our products. The Model Maker will build models and prototypes that contribute directly to our products’ engineering feasibility, consumer usability, and quality assurance. This is a full-time position in our Torrance, CA office.
Collaborate with designers and engineers to explore, innovate and execute the construction planning and fabrication of ID concept mockups and engineering prototypes.
Machine prototype molds and components from 3-D model files supplied from engineering design.
Design and construct fixtures for aiding in product quality testing.
Build displays and exhibits for tradeshows and in-store marketing displays.
Use creativity and self-direction in designing, machining, and testing of prototypes and fixtures when standard methods do not apply.
Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum of Associate of Arts/Design degree or equivalent experience.
Experience working with Model Shop equipment such as model board, wood, metal, plastics,
urethanes, saws, milling machines, routers, jointers, drill press, sanders, hand tools and similar materials and tools.
Skilled on surface finishing, painting and coatings to replicated manufactured finishes.
Able to explore a wide variety of prototype solutions, colors, finishes and materials.
Proficiency in shop processes and safety procedures for tool use.
Experience in RP and CNC is required.
Ability to estimate the level of effort for a task, and adhere to schedule and budget.
Proficiency in general computer skills, PC / Windows environment experience.
General knowledge of Creo/Pro-Engineer/Solidworks or other 3D design software.
Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
A lover of clean, modern design.
