We are looking for an entry-level Industrial Designer for our Consumer Business Group to enhance the design function at the 3M Design Center, located in Maplewood, MN.
The person hired for the position of Industrial Designer will be responsible to apply innovative thinking and fundamental design skills to the Consumer Business Group for new product development and modification, design research, and design validation. The Industrial Designer will proactively engage design challenges from a comprehensive perspective, demonstrating an ability to understand the technical, social and emotional values that have critical business value.

Major Duties & Responsibilities
Industrial Designer primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Deliver industrial design content as an individual contributor in support of project goals.
-Coordinate entry-level development and delivery of design for assigned brands.
-Work with team and agencies to manage design projects towards success.
-Apply well-defined approaches, systems, and processes.
-Handle assignments that require developing integral design skills.
-Generate creative design proposals for visual design language for product or platform-specific programs.
-Share design output with internal and external stake holders in influential and compelling ways.
-Effectively translate existing design direction into adjacency product or visual offerings for brand continuity.
-Identify and promote self-initiated design programs that generate critical business value.
-Support the 3M Design organization internally and externally building and cultivating strong network.
-Possess or currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial Design or Product Design from an accredited university
-Minimum of 1 (one) combined year of working experience in industrial design, product design or product development
-Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or Product Design
-Portfolio of design work demonstrating a strong understanding of design process and a capacity to create compelling design solutions
-Excellent sketching, rapid prototyping and 2D/3D design software skills (e.g. Rhino and/or SolidWorks)
-Experience in Adobe Creative Suite
-Strong written, verbal and visual communication skills
-Strong design skills suitable to a corporate environment
-Demonstrated capabilities of estimating time schedules and working towards aggressive deadlines
-Demonstrated flexibility in multiple task assignments while maintaining a high level of accuracy
-Proven capacity to deliver quality design solutions across multiple and varied design challenges
