Design Leader: Radius Innovation, Chicago Studio
We are seeking a design leader to assist with the growth, productivity, and creative/technical capabilities of the industrial design group at Radius. In this position, the individual is responsible for the creative/technical and professional development of designers, proactively contributing in the strategic direction of RPD, growing new and existing clients, and the quality of the department’s services and deliverables.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
□ Oversee the productivity and well-being of the industrial design group
□ Responsible for leading and directing the innovation process
□ Responsible for the continued professional growth and training of the designers
□ Participate in recruiting and hiring of designers
□ Establish and maintain a set of design department standards to ensure design excellence
□ Conceptualize ways of providing new and improved value to customers
□ Contribute design knowledge and experience to product development projects
□ Maintain a high standard of customer service and professional guidance
□ Participate in soliciting new jobs and customers, manage and nurture existing accounts
□ See that the creative/technical needs of the design department are met
□ Promote a culture of pride, passion, and integrity
□ Identify strategic opportunities for Radius
□ Manage design budget
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
□ Bachelors in Industrial Design, Masters Degree in Business, Strategy, or Design Research preferred
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE TYPICALLY REQUIRED:
□ 8 to 10 years of experience as a practicing industrial designer
□ 3 to 5 years of experience managing product development teams
□ A history of developing products with multi-disciplinary teams
□ A history of participating in the development of products from research and strategy (marketing direction) through product design production
□ Involvement in developing a combination of high volume components/products and mid-complex product assemblies in a variety of manufacturing processes
□ Ability to lead in a highly collaborative and team-oriented environment.
□ Ability to relate to and mentor individuals and nurture talent.
□ Effective interpersonal and relationship building skills
□ Ability to manage multiple project teams in parallel.
□ Motivated, takes initiative, and excels at motivating others
□ Provide direction, vision and planning throughout the duration of a project.
□ The ability to organize resources to meet project goals.
