C&EN’s Media Group offers a wide range of custom publishing services as well as print and digital native advertising solutions through its new BrandLab. It offers clients the opportunity to direct their brand story to C&EN’s powerful audience of scientific buyers as well as the 25 million scientists who visit ACS’s more than 50 research journals each year.

Position Summary
The art director will oversee the brand design and production of all C&EN Media group custom publishing products, including print and web native advertising pieces, onsite publications, media kits, white papers, quizzes, e-books/digital editions, and other marketing materials. S/he will ensure that all C&EN Media group custom publishing products visually delight readers and advertisers alike, while still representing C&EN’s brand in a manner consistent with its brand statement.

Required Skills
Position Accountabilities:
Working with C&EN Media group’s BrandLab team, design materials for all C&EN media group branded content and custom publishing products on all desired channels. Support C&EN’s Production team’s efforts to meet publishing deadlines.
Stretch the boundaries of print and web design and digital storytelling to support the client’s brand message.
Work with management team on budgeted and forecast projects to plan and execute projects ensuring their business objectives are consistently met.
Translate creative briefs and project requirements into exceptional designs and finished projects.
Design and layout supplements, show dailies, white papers, onsite publications, and other marketing materials.
Work with web team on creating designs for original digital content on native publishing programs.
Design line art, tables, charts, infographics, and other art elements to illustrate and enhance both print and digital custom publishing products.
Partner with C&EN’s marketing team to develop marketing materials, editorial calendars, media kits, custom events, and other campaigns.
Working with the head of C&EN’s Media Production Lab, create and maintain a brand design guide for C&EN custom publishing products.
Expertly navigate interdepartmental coordination, communication, and teamwork.
Required Experience
Graphic design specialist with 5+ years of experience in the management of the complete design process, from conceptualization to delivery. Skilled with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) as well as Microsoft Office and web design applications (Dreamweaver, HTML/CSS/Javascript). Experience working with K4 content management system, HTML5 production tools, and the Adobe Experience Manager a big plus. Ability to handle multiple projects and changing priorities. Comfort managing deadline-driven activity. Present a portfolio that showcases conceptual thinking and ability to work on print and digital products. Degree in graphic design, digital media, web design or other related discipline.
