Job Description

At AKQA, we believe in the imaginative application of art and science to create beautiful ideas, products and services. With an entrepreneurial and collaborative approach, we design adaptive digital services and applications that capture the imagination, delivering impressive returns for our clients.

As a Lead UI/Product Designer, you’ll champion user-centred design processes and techniques. You’ll apply your intellectual curiosity to set the highest standard of digital design usability and aesthetics. You’ll also create ideas and/or oversee the direction of the experience and design outputs, ensuring that the visual style adheres to the brand, principles and ambition of the project.

Champion and uphold design and craft standards.
Lead by doing, taking a hands-on approach to the work.
Possess not just exceptional art direction skills, but also the ability to implement strategic and conceptual thinking.
Be a brand custodian for your clients.
Lead the creation of concepts, style tiles, mood-boards and style guides.
Design across various touchpoints (i.e. websites, apps, digital products and retail installations).
Provide concept direction across multiple streams of work.
Experience delivering mobile, responsive and systematic designs.
Confidently present design work to key stakeholders and build trusting relationships.
Participate in daily stand-ups and formal design critique sessions.
Ensure projects and tasks are delivered, on time and on budget, to the highest design quality.
Communicate design methodologies, approaches and estimations.
Share your learnings and knowledge with the wider XD and AKQA teams.
Keep up to date with the latest design, UX and technology trends.
Provide mentorship to senior and junior designers.

Flexible with your approach, but not with your quality.
Confident articulating ideas and forming rationalised points of view.
Great collaborator and team player.
Hard on the work, not on the people.
8+ years in a dedicated digital design role (agency or client side).
Exceptional design aesthetics and extreme attention to detail.
Experience and ability to succeed in a deadline-oriented, fast-paced environment.
Strong experience across the Adobe CS suite and Sketch.
Proficient in user-centred design methodologies and design thinking.
Previous retail and ecommerce experience highly desirable.
Experience working in agile environments and product teams.
