The College of William and Mary invites applications for a Makerspace Director, who will play a key role in a currently emerging engineering and design initiative. This role will serve to bridge the efforts of multiple academic units across Arts & Sciences, the Mason School of Business, and the School of Education. The Makerspace Director is expected to develop and implement engineering-related curricula, and will teach at least one major introductory design course. Makerspaces across campus will play a pivotal role in the new engineering program, and allow students to carry out independent design projects and research. The Makerspace Director will have the opportunity to train and mentor William & Mary students in engineering-related research projects.Significant resources have been made available to further develop and equip these makerspaces, and the Makerspace Director will coordinate these efforts. In addition, the director will develop policies and training activities that pertain to existing prototyping and fabrication laboratories (i.e., Makerspaces) on campus. The Makerspace director will also play an important role in developing new state of the art facilities as the engineering and design program matures. A graduate degree in an engineering-related discipline is required. Practical experience in industry, industrial design, architecture, or a closely related field is preferred. Candidates should have experience in higher education, particularly instruction or curriculum development.
