ZS seeks a User Experience Lead to join our Evanston-based Software Development (SD) team. The SD team at ZS is a diverse, collaborative and smart group with offices in India and the United States. The UX team within this group conducts user-centered strategy, research and design in support of ZS' software products and productized assets. In this team you will have an immediate impact on the full lifecycle of our solutions as we bring a user-centered design approach to software development, configuration, and ongoing administration of our clients' business processes.

As a User Experience Lead, you will drive initiatives that make ZS solutions useful, usable and desirable for people, while also meeting the business needs of our clients. We seek someone who is passionate about leveraging user-centered research and design methods to solve complex business problems and deliver a best-in-class user experience. This role works across various lifecycle stages, from initial definition to continuous enhancement, as we integrate user-centered design into the development of our software products and assets. You will provide expertise and direction in guiding UX strategy, research, and design, including hands-on support for portfolio-level product development initiatives. You will create, execute, and synthesize various types of user research studies to discover user needs. You will also leverage user research findings, combined with knowledge of UX best practices, to develop design recommendations and solutions, including navigation and interaction strategies for various enterprise applications, information systems, dashboards, and data visualizations. As a senior member of the team, you will provide internal UX thought leadership and be an integral part of guiding our team of skilled UX Researchers and Designers.


Business Knowledge and Acumen
•Ability to understand complex business processes and how they manifest in enterprise software to support end-users
•Functional understanding of enterprise software, including portals, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, content management systems, collaboration technologies, and Business Intelligence (BI) systems
•Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical teams to produce feasible solutions in support of Sales, Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, and Analytics
•Strongly developed business acumen and the ability to deeply and quickly understand varying business needs holistically
•Previous experience working in pharmaceutical industry and knowledge of healthcare is preferred

User Experience
•Robust and diverse portfolio featuring user-centered design studies that lead to positive business outcomes
•Solid understanding of user-centered design principles, careful attention to detail, the ability to grasp complex, nuanced product requirements, and lead discussions on these topics
•Fluency with user-centered design (UCD) process and user research techniques such as ethnographic studies, user interviews and usability testing, with the ability to clearly articulate various research methods to stakeholders
•The ability to scope, cost, plan and facilitate a research study end-to-end, including a demonstrated aptitude for user research report writing (we will request a formal writing sample)
•The ability to incorporate insights from research studies into synthesized findings in a manner that is easily understood by project team members
•Expertise using design tools like Axure and Adobe Creative Suite
•Experience designing for mobile applications with a focus on delivering engaging user experiences
•A functional understanding of modern code, like HTML 5, JavaScript and CSS, and how digital business properties can leverage it, when possible, to provide a rich, consumer-grade user experience

Stakeholder Management and Communication
•Demonstrated experience in UX technology project and program management, including scope definition, deadlines and stakeholder management
•Excellent collaboration skills, with experience guiding design decisions and obtaining consensus on project requirements and deliverables, with all levels of clients and ZS project team members
•Superior oral and written communication skills, especially the ability to clearly articulate design decisions with stakeholders and development teams, and keep UX and project team leads up-to-date
•Ability to package complex information in compelling, meaningful ways that are easy to understand and structured in an effective, logical and top-down manner
•Experience confidently and clearly presenting recommendations while gauging audience understanding; ability to handle unexpected changes and issues with poise
•Candidates should have the ability to travel to client locations (15%) to work with teams and provide in-person expertise


ZS welcomes candidates who hold a Masters or PhD degree in Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, the social sciences (Anthropology, Psychology, Cognitive Psychology), or a related field. We are looking for individuals with 8-10 years of experience in the field of User Experience, with a focus on enabling and delivering complex, high-volume, high profile business applications, portals, mobile applications, interactive dashboards, data visualizations. ZS is a global consulting firm; fluency in English is required, additional fluency in at least one European or Asian language is desirable.
