Assistant Professor in Industrial Design
The Department of Art, Art History and Design at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in industrial design (ID) at the rank of assistant professor. The department seeks an outstanding designer who can balance theory and practice with a proven record of extensive knowledge in one or more of the following areas: user experience(UX) design, design entrepreneurship, design thinking and computer-aided design & digital fabrication. Qualified applicants are asked to present a record of accomplishment in design practice and/or trajectory of research activities required of a research and teaching university. The appointed faculty member will be expected to actively pursue research and to teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to industrial design in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment. The faculty member will be expected to participate in curriculum development, engage in academic and professional service, and work collaboratively with internal and external research partners and organizations. The terminal degree (MFA, MS, MID, etc.) in design is required for this position; and candidates with relevant experience in teaching and/or serving the professional industry are encouraged to apply. The design program is one part of an exciting, multi-disciplinary creative studies department including studio artists, art historians and a spectrum of visual communication and industrial designers. The department is committed to a collaborative teaching and learning environment within the context of a liberal arts education.
