Senior UX Designer

Job Description

Meraki UX Designers are design generalists and design evangelists. We work to understand our users and reshape Meraki products to align with their goals. As a Meraki UX Designer, you’ll guide projects from start to finish: researching, brainstorming solutions, sketching, prototyping, user testing, mocking up interactions and interfaces, and (if you know how or want to learn) even implementing your designs in code yourself. You’ll work collaboratively with other designers, engineers, and product managers to ship experiences that delight our users.

Schools, businesses, and other organizations all over the world use Meraki hardware and software to run their WiFi networks. By allowing IT administrators to remotely setup and troubleshoot their networking hardware, phones, and security cameras, Meraki makes it possible for organizations to focus on what they do and have their technology simply work.

Example project of a Meraki Senior UX Designer:
Conduct user research to understand how IT administrators use Meraki products to troubleshoot WiFi problems. Learn more about the technical side of WiFi troubleshooting. Mock up concepts for improved troubleshooting workflows in our products, validate them with end users, and strategize with engineering and product management to transition users from the current state toward those concepts.

A typical day of a Meraki Senior UX Designer:
- Conduct user research remotely or in person with end users from diverse organizations and industries.
- Synthesize understanding of users, articulate recommendations to larger product team, and drive design execution.
- Sketch and whiteboard design concepts with other designers, product managers, or engineers.
- Create mockups, storyboards, journey maps, wireframes, site maps, or similar artifacts to express how a product should behave.
- Advise engineers on the design of workflows, pages, or UI components they are building.

You are an ideal candidate if:
- You are passionate about designing for complex domains and workflows. You are excited about understanding the complexities to make them simpler and more approachable.
- You lead UX projects from start to finish, working collaboratively with product management and engineering teams.
- You dig deeper to understand the user needs behind customer requests. You are able to set and manage scope, and identify areas of uncertainty on a project.
- You decide when user research is necessary to guide design direction and conduct that research. You include cross-disciplinary team in user research, and you coach others on user research methodologies.
- You use rough sketches to experiment with multiple potential solutions to a problem. You are able to articulate tradeoffs of different solutions and make a recommendation based on project context.
- You flexibly adapt design process and methods to projects based on context and scale.
- You have strong communication, presentation, and design judgement skills.
- You have a BA/BS degree in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), HCI or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Have 3+ years of experience as a UX designer or a similar role.

Bonus points if you have experience working with web or mobile based technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript / React, Android Studio, XCode, etc. These will help you collaborate with developers or (if you’re interested) write and edit markup and styles to mock-up interfaces.
