We are seeking a Lead Experience Architect to join our Global Experience Design team to own and drive the experience design of the hardware user interface for printers. In this position, you will work across a variety of different design and development teams to ensure the best user experiences across our portfolio of Home Business products. You will use your exceptional design skills and experience to help reinvent how home business users interact with our products. This position resides in the San Diego, California area.

Our ideal candidate will have broad design capabilities, with an ability to understand and work with technical engineering concepts. This includes a solid understanding of industrial design and user interface design practices, artfully integrating interaction experiences into groundbreaking new product designs. You must be able to collaborate across both physical and digital design disciplines to define, specify, and prototype these compelling experiences. And via your partnering skills with development partners, you will generate empathy for users and advocate for the customer to see your design intent be realized in production.

• Leads overall user experience design definition, strategy and execution of hardware user interfaces for Home Business printers, aligned and coordinated with the broader HP print portfolio.
• Responsible for planning and producing holistic experience concepts and specifications that optimize the user experience of physical touchpoints for the benefit of the HP print business, customers, users, and partners, deeply informed by user research and insights.
• Responsible for tracking interaction/technology trends and leveraging these to drive innovative design direction, proposing and championing longer term experience opportunities.
• Establishes and manages usability targets and thresholds.
• Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with user experience design and development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and user experience during ongoing development.
• Works closely with technical R&D partners to achieve best in class results.

• Minimum 10+ years’ experience developing user experience strategy and designs across a range of connected platforms and devices, including hardware interfaces.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Design, Interaction Design, Experience Design, Graphic Design, Human Factors Engineering, or equivalent.
• Proven leadership experience with application of design theories, principles, and concepts to a portfolio of multiple information technology, products and services designs.
• Self-motivated and able to manage multiple parallel-path projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language. Ability to effectively communicate user experience data, design proposals and product specifications and negotiate options at senior management levels. Able to develop and write interaction specifications, wireframes and prototypes to describe hardware UI systems, consumable by design and development teams.
• Experience with Industrial Design and how to integrate hardware interactions a variety of ID solutions.
• Experience with User Interface Design in embedded systems.
• Strong understanding of usability practices and human factors to inform physical interaction implementations.
• Able to work closely with technical partners, including mechanical, electrical and software engineers to develop hardware UI systems on products. A strong technical background, enabling creative collaboration on innovative hardware UI solutions with partners, especially when there are challenging technical constraints to overcome.
• Able to work strategically to understand future technology trends, design trends, business needs, and user needs to inform and plan for future HW UI development.
