Creatively Classic Activities and Books is looking for an experienced Sr. Packaging Designer to join our team! The Sr. Packaging Designer works with a cross-functional team leading a portion of packaging design for CCA and B, LLC’s products, while ensuring consistency for brand identity. He/she provides hands-on, innovative design for all packaging and merchandising to support a portfolio of CCA and B, LLC’s products. The Sr. Packaging Designer also supports the Art Department with graphics and contributes product concepts, product designs and other creative ideas and support to the in-house Illustrator and New Product Development team.

The Sr. Packaging Designer provides art direction for packaging photo shoots, concepting, working with dielines, artwork placement, and project engineering. The Sr. Packaging Designer reports to the Sr. Director of Creative, and works closely with Product Development, Licensing, Marketing, Legal and Management team members to ensure packaging designs and related collateral materials are consistent with the EOTS brand style and specifications.

The Sr. Packaging Designer may at some point manage Jr. Designers. He/She would give direction and guidance to ensure projects and designs are accurately executed and follow brand guidelines. The Sr. Packaging Designer would review all packaging and artwork produced by Jr. Packaging Designers to ensure they adhere to the necessary time, action and overall directional concepts.

The Sr. Packaging Designer fills a critical role that is vital to the day to day operations of our business.

He/She is responsible for the following essential duties:

• Leads development and the design of complete packaging systems, and potential new concepts at the highest level of technical expertise using a variety of materials; Modifies and refines designs as needed; Leads artwork placement for packaging designs;
• Independently develops and designs book covers and associated packaging by incorporating illustration, typography, and new artwork/concepts utilizing the highest level of technical expertise and a variety of mediums; Modifies and refines designs as needed and leads others to do the same;
• Manages and guides outside agencies – providing clear success criteria, regular feedback, and goals and milestones to hit;
• Works closely with Product Development and Illustration to create, manage and maintain a deliverable schedule that aligns with corporate goals;
• Creates structural packaging dielines for production artwork; Creates packaging CMF and cosmetic specifications; Create unique and original art assets for packaging;
• Proofs final work for accurate alignment and placement of elements, resolutions, dimensions, etc.; Leads project engineering for packaging;
• Oversees final packaging proofing process from sample to production stage;
• Works in collaboration with Compliance and New Product Development to ensure packaging quality and standards are upheld;
• Marks up and comments on proofs to communicate changes and approval on packaging proofs to factories;
• Leads set implementation and product styling ensuring imagery matches brand specifications; Provides art direction requirements to in-house photo teams for execution of photography elements;
• Keeps packaging files up-to-date; Insures accuracy of files and placement of safety information, as well as necessary regulatory information like ISBN/UPC codes, and manufacturing information;
• Creates, maintains, and organizes production files according to established standards and specifications for packaging;
• Presents designs to management; Confers with marketing, production, and/or sales departments to discuss and evaluate design concepts;
• Supports in-house Illustrator and New Product Development team with new product concepts and product designs; graphics range from concept ideas and presentations to final product art work;
• Researches, tests, and drafts mock-up designs as required to support development of creative concepts to satisfy structural requirements and specification needs; Explores relevant industry trends for design inspiration and stays current on regulations regarding technical requirements;
• Assists in creating packaging schedules and process improvements;
• Delivers against schedules provided by Project Management.
• Protects company assets through the proper management of asset files and adherence to company policy with regard to information security and management.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree Graphic Design or Packaging Design required;
• 10+ years of relevant experience with packaging, display, and merchandising design and development;
• Demonstrated experience developing and working with die lines, structural mock ups, and sketches;
• Advanced understanding of packaging design —including die-lines, structural configuration, 3D forms, branding guidelines, and compliance;
• Experience managing photo shoots and photography direction; Knowledge of photography art direction and retouching to include artwork placement;
• Portfolio must represent extensive experience in retail and/or CPG;
• Expert proficiency in software applications including Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook Suite;
• Knowledge of packaging manufacturing processes and materials;
• Knowledge of packaging standards and regulations;
• Knowledge of product packaging file set-up and guidelines;
• Strong Graphic Design skills and ability to communicate visually with an eye for consistency;
• Strong layout skills and design sensibilities;
• Demonstrated artistic skill and style; Ability to adapt style to fit with needs of project;
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to design to multiple projects simultaneously;
• Ability to utilize active listening skills, (hear, process and understand);
• Able to work independently, and as part of a team, in support of the company’s creative goals and business objectives;
• Able to incorporate modifications into designs;
• Ability to communicate ideas clearly and willingness to receive team member feedback or criticism;
• Dedicated, inquisitive, self-motivated and collaborative;
• Highly skilled with project plans and creative problem solving; Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to take initiative, plan and follow through with tangible results; Self-motivated;
• Manage Jr. and mid-level packaging designers; and
• Capable of juggling numerous responsibilities and management duties in a fast paced environment.
