Job Description

As a Sr. Manager Experience Technology, you will be accountable for technology delivery excellence across a portfolio of projects while inspiring our clients and our team through leading by doing. You will lead and manage interactive developers to ensure technology choices and execution match business objectives, creative vision, schedule, and budget. You will also be a core member of Second Story’s greater technology leadership team and your studio’s leadership team, responsible for executing and informing Second Story’s technology strategy, while collaborating with creative design, project management, and business leads. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and visionary thinker with an inquisitive mind, a person keen to integrate new technologies and accomplished at expressing creativity of vision in code and software architecture.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build an active and inspiring partnership with the studio’s creative and business leaders, embodying the multidisciplinary, collaborative approach we take to all our work
- Play a key role in pitches and presentations to both existing and potential clients, instigating concepts and fast ideation to inspire others and win business
- Provide creative inspiration to the studio through novel explorations of both new and old technologies in our onsite lab
- Proactively and respectfully lead, mentor, and motivate the technology team on all project work in your portfolio—this includes ensuring technology leads are managing client expectations and best accomplishing the creative vision of the project to account for the audience, the client’s business objectives, and risk mitigation
- Primary technology supervisor and career manager in the studio, ensuring that we have the right technologists and are enabling them to: support our strategy, have a clear path for growing their own careers, and be excited about Second Story and their place in it
- Accountability for the quality of all technology deliverables in your project portfolio
- Balancing the responsibility of leading some projects while being accountable for more junior technologists leading other projects
- Informing the development trajectory of each project, including taking an active role in conceptual ideation, prototyping, planning, architecting, executing code, installation, and support
- Day-to-day tasks include working with developers and producers to inform and create estimates and project plans, matching people to tasks, facilitating regular communication on progress, proactively resolving issues and process bottlenecks, ensuring production plans are followed and continue to match and inspire the creative vision and project scope, and working with project leadership to adjust project direction as necessary

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- A hands-on doer alongside being a leader
- Established portfolio across experiential activations, blending digital and physical worlds
- An effective communicator with a proven history of successful collaboration with clients, designers, producers, developers, engineers, fabricators, AV integrators, and contractors
- A technical leader with 3+ years of experience leading technology teams, managing contractors, and taking a lead role in defining and warranting best practices in software engineering
- A software engineer with 7+ years of experience building interactive experiences in a combination of languages such as c++, c#, java, javascript, python, html, and php.
- A technology-agnostic software architect with a breadth-first love and understanding of technologies such as HTML5+CSS+JS+webGL, Unity, Unreal, openFrameworks, Touch Designer, D3, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Processing, Cinder, computer vision frameworks/hw, media servers…
- A playful experimenter with interest and facility in developing for diverse interactive platforms
- A pragmatic innovator whose solutions elicit responses that justify the effort and expense
- Motivated by the adventure of breaking boundaries to create something new and different
- A true collaborator with a positive disposition, a solution-based attitude, and the ability to work with people of diverse skills, backgrounds, and beliefs
