Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research and development arm of Disney’s Parks and Resorts business segment. Representing more than 150 disciplines, its talented corps of Imagineers are responsible for the creation of Disney resorts, theme parks and attractions, hotels, water parks, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, cruise ships and new media technology projects.

The Industrial Designer is responsible for developing and communicating creative and engineering concepts and content for theme park attractions, and/or other themed entertainment venues, under the direction of the creative lead and/or Project Engineer for the project. They work in collaboration with other team members in conceiving, developing and refining ideas with respect to industrial design. The industrial designer uses of a combination of applied art and applied science to improve the aesthetics, ergonomics, and usability of a product, but it may also be used to improve the product's marketability and production. The role of an industrial designer is to create and execute design solutions for problems of form, usability, physical ergonomics, marketing, brand development, and sales.

The industrial designer is also responsible for providing concept direction for designing ride vehicles, restraint & containment systems, ergonomics, user interface devices and scenic elements through the use of paint, sketching, 3D modeling, and/or other computer based art. The Industrial Designer may develop the idea beyond concept by using digital and/or traditional tools to articulate buildable designs, and by guiding the creative vision through production and installation.

Responsibilities:
- Provides concept direction for the design of models, sets, animation, show, ride and scenic elements through various visual tools.
- Able to include the use of art, illustration, architecture, drawings, sketches, physical mock-ups, 2D and 3D digital design, multimedia mediums or non-traditional applications
- Can produce mock-ups, facilitate user testing, drawing "buildable" concepts in scale and perspective in either sketching and drawing in the traditional manner on paper, or through nontraditional applications
- Works in collaboration with other team members in developing industrial design related ideas
- Assigned to multiple projects
- Assignments may include participation in brainstorming sessions for new attractions or entertainment venues
- Can take work from concept to development in production through field installation for small to medium projects
- Demonstrates superior industrial design skills communicated through a wide variety of styles including the use of traditional, 3D or non-traditional applications
- Expanded skill set includes demonstrated command of multiple mediums including 3D and drawing styles such as illustration, linework and rendering
- Skilled at producing mock-ups, facilitating user testing, drawing "buildable" concepts in scale and perspective in either sketching and drawing in the traditional manner on paper, or through nontraditional applications
- Assigned to multiple projects which may include “Blue Sky” design st udio, scenic illusions, and
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate creative and/or engineering concepts using multiple mediums
- Can take the lead from concept to development in production through field installation for any project
- Works on multiple, complex attractions, or on a team of artists and/or engineers for a larger scope from concept to completion
- Provides supervision to external vendors for day to day art direction during production and installation
- Directs others assigned to the project
- Ability to communicate concepts to other team members and the Creative lead
- Utilizes excellent verbal and visual skills to facilitate and enhance idea development in project design and brainstorming sessions
- Intuitive approach to resolving conflict and providing direction
- Knowledge of available resources and how to use them effectively in order to meet objectives
- Ability to present ideas to executive leadership

Basic Qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge of artistic and design media as a storytelling device
- Accomplished artistic visual and conceptual skills, including a talent for quick concept sketches as well as fully rendered designs through both 2D and 3D digital tools.
- Superior industrial design and concept visualization skills supported by practical experience
- Training in industrial design, arts, theater, or entertainment preferred, with a minimum of 3 years in the product design, transportation design and/or entertainment design industry
- Well versed in multiple subjects, styles and design media
- Excellent creative problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Accomplished visual storytelling skills
- Knowledgeable in means, methods and materials of production (primarily product and transportation related fields).

Required Education
- BS or equivalent related design experience required
- Degree in, industrial design, fine arts, theater, animation, architecture or environmental design preferred, not required
