Work History

My name is John Baker, I am 25 years old and from Essex, England. I am currently living in Melbourne, Australia. For the past 4 years I have had a great interest in 3D Modelling and Animation. In 2008, I attended Escape Studios in Shepherds Bush, a Computer Graphics school of which I completed a 3D and VFX course using Autodesk Maya, Boujou Track and other software. My first project on the course was "The Chinese Arch" which is featured in my portfolio under the Modelling section. My first job in the 3D industry was at Sorrells Wine Racks in Essex, where I worked as a designer in 2009. The company's main goal was to please their clients with attractive looking wine cellar designs. Using the skills learnt from the course, I was able to model the companys entire stock and render the final images using Autodesk Maya. These renders were visually pleasing to Sorrell's clients, but there was a slight drawback with the software. Although Maya can provide beautiful and realistic looking renders, the functionality of the product was not suited to Sorrell's needs. Since the company needed manufacturing drawings, Maya could not provide this technique. It was later discussed that it would be best if we used a secondard software "Autodesk Inventor". Autodesk Inventor was a success in providing accurate drawings and the designs were later remodelled using Inventor instead of Maya. I also created a templating system, so that we could adjust the wine racks to fit into any difficult space. The models were then imported into Maya for the final render. Later on in my position, I was given the opportunity to design new racks for John Lewis's wine range. In 2010 I decided to travel the world for a year with my girlfriend. Visiting some amazing places like Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Loas, Malaysia, Australia, Fiji and America. It was in Australia that we completed the needed work to obtain our working visas. My main interests are modelling using Inventor and I enjoy experimenting with other software applications. Basically anything that will make a concept look real. I am currently working in Melbourne where I hope to continue working in the industry that I have always loved. I am always available for any work, whether it is designing a new product to creating an animation. As the old saying goes "There is no job to big or small". Please do not hesitate to contact me
