This is a 3D model of a fern and plant pot done with Solid Works. Not too many artists are able to do organic with a NURBS based CAD software. I'd like to think I'm one of the few who can do it well. This fern is by no means perfect but it does have a lot of detailing and work put into it. I made it as a backdrop scenary model for the NEC future desk challenge, where the task was to design a future desk for the PA series MEC monitors. I ended up winning 3rd prize among 200+ professional entries, for my desk design and scenery.
Each individual leaf is flexed, patterened and resized. The texture mapping and rendering was done in PhotoView360. Even better results could have been achieved with KeyShot but I'm really proud with how it turned out anyway. The 3D model already has over 500 downloads on GrabCad.com.
