I have designed hundreds of products for companies such as Limited Brands, Costco, Macys, Walmart, Martha Stewart Home, Crate & Barrel, Restoration Hardware, Target and TSUM. My focus has been in the house-wares, home accessory and fashion industries. I recently completed a graduate degree at Stanford to learn "design-thinking," which emphasizes empathy, rapid prototyping, and user testing to create meaningful products and services. During my studies I developed a patent pending medical device that supports human lactation, a health-related mobile app, personal emergency response system concepts and a toy that promotes family communication. I started my consultancy in June 2012 which has a focus on health and wellness products. I have since been working on design projects for the bio-tech, mobile health, personal care and PERS industries. I enjoy working for both start-ups and established companies in this space.

Redesigning the Neonatal ICU, ME 359-- (Fall 2014) Redesigning the Neonatal ICU will inform students about current challenges in the NICU environment through expert speakers, literature, CAPE simulations and field trips. Simultaneously, we will be studying the users: their environment, their behavior, and their emotions. Our goal is to identify needs that will lead to product, system or service innovation that will improve safety and quality of care. Student groups will have structured access to NICU clinicians at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, as well as parents of preterm infants for conducting ethnography. Opportunities for direct observation in the hospital will be planned as well. Physical prototypes and/or scenarios can be tested and presented at CAPE’s simulation lab in order to give students a realistic environment in which to evaluate and present their ideas.
Primo-Lacto is Maternal Life's first product. A 2-part closed system for colostrum collection. Primo-Lacto is intended for use when (1) mothers cannot or choose not to nurse their newborn or (2) the newborn can’t nurse due to trouble latching, or prematurity. Primo-Lacto enables the goals of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), a global program sponsored by the WHO and UNICEF. Primo-Lacto is a tool to help hospitals meet the criteria outlined in BFHI.
We currently have four pending U.S. patent applications (two of which were recently issued by the Patent Office) and three pending foreign patent applications. We recently were awarded a grant from the NEPDC to continue development, and Rady's Children's Hospital, UCSD, has requested to use the device in a clinical study summer 2015.
