hk20 was inspired by and designed for the community of sham shui po, hong kong and it's inhabitants. hk2o is the result of extensive and immersive research over the course of five weeks in hong kong, china. being the poorest and densest district in hong kong, sham shui po had a wealth of design opportunities to better the well being of the local people. being that there is a pre-existing interest in sustainability and health care initiatives from the government, and in recognizing the lack of access to potable water within the city centers, we set out to create a solution specifically for sham shui po. hk20 effectively captures rain water, purifies it, and makes accessible drinking water through a proposed rooftop design. the system would be implemented onto the mtr (public transportation) entrances so as not to add infrastructure in an already congested area.
