Statue Rendering - Purpose: To render a local sculpture using markers. Components in Portfolio: Initial sketch, marker rendering, marker rendering photoshoped into environment. Medium: Marker and pencil on paper. Size (inches): 10 X 14. Date: October 2007. I learned how to accurately create a rendering using markers.
Clock Created for Hospital Patients - Description: The dots change from green to blue and back to show the passing of time and create a relaxing atmosphere. When the clock is rotated 90 degrees, the dots become illuminated. Components: Design brief, initial sketches and renderings, sketch model, blueprints, final working model. Medium: Birch wood, acrylic, canvas, LEDs, paper. Size (inches): 6.5 X 6.5 X 2. Date: December 2007. I learned how to create products for specific user groups from idea to final working model.

Narrow Pool Cue Case - Purpose: To design and build a pool cue case to fit in a predetermined space. Description: Designed to fit in a narrow space and to hold cues, balls, other accessories, and have a white board to prevent chalk dust. Components in Portfolio: Completed pool cue case photographs. Medium: Oak (solid and plywood), whiteboard covered pressboard, brass. Size (inches): 35 X 19 X 6 Date: April 2003 What I learned: how to design and manufacture a piece of custom furniture.
Tri-Tul Bike Tool - Purpose: To design and render a bike tool. Description: A bike tool made of PC plastic (tough) and a tool steel skeleton (for torsional strength). Center opens to reveal a bit holder which contains 2 Philips, 2 hex and 2 flat head bits. 2 corners contains different sized hex socket and the other corner has an LED flashlight. Components in Portfolio: Rendering of the bike tool. Medium: Photoworks. Size(inches): 3 X 3 X 1. Date: December 2007 I learned how to render using Photoworks.

1.5:1 Scale Working Wrench Prototype - Purpose: To scale up blueprint drawings (provided) and build a working prototype Description: An MDF working prototype of an adjustable wrench. Primed then painted & lacquered. Burned with a flame to bubble the paint & give it a ‘sand cast’ look. Helical screw was provided Components in Portfolio: Unpainted & painted prototype, blueprints Medium: MDF, provided ABS helical screw, primer, spray-paint, lacquer Size(inches): 19 X 6 X 1.5 Date: November 2007 I learned prototyping skills
Calgary Tower Sculpture - Purpose: To build a Calgary tower sculpture & learn to use machining equipment. Description: A sculpture of the Calgary tower created on a metal lathe. It can be filled with fuel & ignited, or double as a business card holder. Components in Portfolio: photos of sculpture. Medium: Steel, brass, aluminum, felt. Size(inches): 3.5X8.5X3.5 Date: April 2007 I learned how to use machining equipment & how to properly read technical drawings, how to dimension products to prevent confusion.
Digital Camera Redesign - Purpose: Redesign product for different user group based on form & color, eco design, universal design & manufacturing Description: Camera for diver. Larger screen, all buttons gone except shutter which controls power (timer for turning off) & shutter. Sealed to prevent leaks. Charged by magnetic induction. Pics uploaded via Bluetooth. Injection molded as 2 pieces to reduce cost. Glow strip directs user to shutter button (universal design) Medium:Marker on paper Size(inch):9X13 Date:Nov 2007
