The source for this sculpture’s shape vocabulary is a “Prada”, wedge style high heal shoe. Prominent in the initial views is a large slicing action that has nearly severed the fully rounded body of this form, causing a dislodged wedge to be thrust forward. Like a revealed heaving chest, the right side seems to be struggling to balance what has been removed but not yet lost. A further response to this violent act has caused the entire sculpture to have a downward tilting axis; resulting in a voluptuous, metallic form to be suspended only one foot above the ground. A rigid, seemingly rough-cut, cast iron heel appears more suspended from… as opposed to being supporting of… all the compressed energy and mass that hangs/floats before it. Moving towards a straight-on view of this sculpture’s outward apex (image 1), the bifurcated sensual forms morph into something similar to the nose of a B-52.
Moving further to the left, the space suddenly compresses into emptiness. The expected other half of this swelling mass is missing…has it been removed, or is it yet to be formed.
