Personal Work

Red
Monster Island Twins - Call it my love for anything Godzilla - I had to pay tribute to those Monster Island Twins.
Ode to Mother - I always enjoy talking to my friends & relatives who are mothers -- especially single mothers. It made me realize how important a mother figure is in all of our lives, so I portrayed this representation of motherhood as an icon -- perhaps even as a superhero (the yellow rubber gloves add to that interpritation) -- creating growth all around her.
So Sick of You - When I first sketched this two-headed person it was for a series inspired by "carnies" or carnival-folk who were societal outcasts. As I continued work, however, it became crystal-clear to me that this was more authentically a piece about family. Whether good or bad, family consists of relationships that we don't have the luxury of choosing. Despite the fact that we share the same genes, mannerisms and likenesses, we can be world's away from identifying with even our closest of relatives.

Little Me - This is a personal piece that later inspired me to create a superhero series of paintings for an art show.
Squidhead - I created this piece for an on-line contest held by the Society of Illustrators in Los Angeles on the theme of "Carnies" and "Carnival Folk." I won.

I like Squidhead because he's a rather likeable fellow -- he understands the irony of being a creature of fascination and at the same time repulsion. He seems to accept his role with stride.
