Work History

As a young, hard-working product designer, I am capable of using my design skills to work in multi-disciplinary teams or on my own to achieve results that are challenging, fun and exciting. I aim to work in a creative environment with like minded individuals where I can learn new skills, confidently work through my design process from brief right through to a working model and pay close attention to detailing design. CURRENT EDUCATION Currently in my fourth year of study in a BSc Product Design course at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, which I started at the age of 16, I have learnt the essentials in becoming a product designer in today’s industry. Crossing the boundaries between design and engineering and also other design disciplines, the course allows students to design, make and showcase their creative products. With open briefs set by leading industry companies such as NCR and Microsoft and also local companies like Sensation Science Centre and Presentation Products, I am confident at offering my design thinking skills to companies both globally and locally. My current project has been inspired by my personal hobby of photography therefore my brief has been set by myself. Focusing on the continuous technological advancements in photography I have been looking into how this could affect the meanings behind domestic photography. My user research has indicated that both professional and amateur photographers alike are agreeing that digital photography is becoming dull, boring and clinical which is something I am challenging within my project. PREVIOUS EDUCATION Arbroath Academy (2001-2006) Higher: Maths A, Product Design A, Art and Design B, Physics B. CORE SKILLS Creative Skills – creative skills include: mind mapping, cultural probes, user research, sketching, prototyping, model making, laser cutting, microcontrollers, wood working, organisation, recording information and soldering. Computing Skills – experienced IT skills with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, adequate user of InDesign, Illustrator and Final Cut Pro, a confident user of Solidworks and Photoshop and have a basic understanding of Dreamweaver, HTML web design and Arduino SUPPORTING STATEMENT With interests in other design fields such as graphics, photography and fashion, I aim to continue learning new techniques that I can add to my skill set, enabling me to understand and look at design from various angles. The well-being of my family and friends is very important to me therefore socialising is always a good way for me to relax. Whether this is watching a movie, eating out or having a drink at the pub, I always find the time to take a breather.
