Changing Waters - Year 6

A new model for inland aquaculture; this project is the design for a low ecological impact and low energy food production, farming Trout and aquaponic produce.

Such changes to our food industry will be critical if we are to re-establish our habitat and become carbon neutral by 2050.
The proposal also frees up previously farmed land on site to be restored as an intensive wetland eco-park, as an attraction for people of Burton or beyond to visit.
Separately to the food production the fishery also makes use of an adjacent nutrient rich sewage outflow stream to grow insects. These will then be used to cover a portion of the Trout’s feedstock and reduce the imports.
The scheme demonstrates how farming as be more integrated with its environmental and social context.
