Tutorial Images

Here are a few images showing how I work when starting out with a sketch. I hope some of these images inspire you to keep practicing and exploring every day.

SK*8 (final render) - All right stop collaborate and listen
Ice is back with my brand new invention
Something grabs a hold of me tightly
Flow like a harpoon daily and nightly
Will it ever stop yo I don't know
Turn off the lights and I'll glow
To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle
Dance go rush to the speaker that booms
I'm killing your brain like a poisonous mushroom etc...

CHORUS
Ice ice baby vanillla (x4)
Here is a little teaser of a sketch I am working on entitled {52 Pickup). My first tutorial video will be launching soon. Just getting used to setting these up in Quicktime and telling a good story.

Squidward Sr_Grey Shadows and Highlights - In this step I am just throwing in some greys to show the form better. I start with the darkness and then follow up with another layer for the top highlights. I change the opacity on my brush a lot and use a lot of selections with a broad brush.
Full Size (highres_width x highres_height)
"Squidward Sr" - Me and my son Cole have watched a buttload of Spongebob over the years. Who is my favorite character on that show? Squidward of course! He rocks!

A bunch of people have been asking me to upload the steps to show how I work. Check out the other images to get a peek. This is a quick process and works like a charm for me.

SK*8/ Phase 1 - Now I am fine tuning composition with the layout of the two views of the girl. A little clean up and starting to design ice-soaring apparatus. Defining ice circles in the ice and reflections to keep build up the story and mood.
Full Size (highres_width x highres_height)
skinn-r stretchin' 2 - Just taking this a bit further. Defining light source and mood. Defining characters and trying to integrate a story...
Full Size (highres_width x highres_height)
Light Suit Tutorial - This shows how I got the end result of the light suit. I bought this flexible led panel and formed it over my daughters body and took a series of photos. I put it all together and painted over it in PSD.

Triple Delight_Image 2 - Ok..I reworked my line work to kick out this rough, but as tight as I want it "tightness". Scoody um pum..Tah!
Full Size (highres_width x highres_height)
Triple Delight_John Deere Image 4 - Laying down reference photos around my sketch and blocking in color, defining materials.
Full Size (highres_width x highres_height)
Triple Delight_Rollerblade Progress - Blocking in some shapes and defining features on this chick. Breaking up the rocket seat so it is featured a bit more. A cool blue natural gas blast from the back may be neat.
Full Size (highres_width x highres_height)
Triple Delight_Final Rollerblade Detail - This is as far as I wanted to take this image. My favorite part is the breather plate on her face and the squinted Clint Eastwood eyes. This image was all about a cool camera angle and motion. I ended up tying in the green John Deere across the whole image. Just hints of textures and materials.

"Day Brakes" Tutorial Image 1 - Here is another example of an image I have just begun. You can still see my rough initial sketch in the background and my updated sketch layered on top. I am defining the light source, blocking out the image composition, and telling a story. Notice the character staring at the man exiting the plane.

I will push foreground, mid-ground and background in this image as well for a sense of 3D depth. Some rich fabrics for that curtain will also seal the deal.
Full Size (highres_width x highres_height)
"Day Brakes" Tutorial Image 2 - Here is the rendering all done up. I dropped in hints of materials to a few areas and did some funk-a-lating with my layers to get some unexpected but glorious results.

My Studio - I work in the corner of our guest room. Not a lot of space in California houses. Inpiration around and plenty of references. I have my reference library of books in another room. My favorite parts...anatomy models, Glenn Barr art, bomb and spidey.
