Studio in the Woods - Studio in the Woods is an architecture festival held every year in the UK. The basic idea is architects realizing built projects out of wood in a rural setting in a compressed charette format. 50+ people camp together for the duration of the event. In 2011 Matthew Dalziel and I designed and built the showers and toilets - the infrastructure for the camp. We used composting humanure toilets, and then ran copper tubing through the hot compost pile to give us warm showers. (so nice in a tepid English summer.) We also invented a method of lashing the wood together to make all the structures demountable and reusable. We exceeded all the technical requirements, but we also tried to infuse the whole thing with poetic minimalism.
