Born to a journalist and a photographer, I was exposed to a gamut of real-life stories from a very early age. When the time came to choose what I wanted to do in life, design was almost naturally, my first choice. I graduated in communication design from Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology (Bangalore, India), in 2010 and have since been working on numerous projects involving design for print, web and space. My interests lie in exploring the impact of community-specific “digital dialects” on information dissemination and acceptance, and designing insightful, inclusive and intuitive informative interactions and spaces. I shall be spending the next two years to assimilating my learnings and experiences as an MFA Information Design & Visualization ‘16 candidate Northeastern University’s College of Art, Media and Design. My design practice focuses on engaging spaces and themes at the intersection of technology, design, and culture. Some of the key questions revolve around the impact of emerging technologies on traditional methods and modes of education, perception as well as the receipt of messages in a post-google world. In a sensor-rich world that is moving towards a unified visual culture, how do the emerging “digital dialects” affect the prevailing vernacular social visual culture? How can community-centric sensibilities be harnessed to create comfort-driven interactions that communicate messages more effectively?
