The use of RFID labels, reprogrammed to contain relevant wash-care information of clothing items which then interact with the new Washing machine to automatically suggest the 'best' wash setting.
Storyboard of new system; showing how the user interacts with the new technology in a non-invasive and beneficial way, not changing the current washing process just aiding it if required.
LCD screen displays clothing loaded and suggested wash setting, also alerting the user if a particular garment may ruin the wash. e.g red sock in white wash. Control always remains with the user as the washer 'suggests' the setting and does not just do it without command.
RFID clothing labels would also work with ironing. reader on ironing board would send information to iron which in turn would adjust heat/steam setting.
RFID (Radio Frequency identification) label on clothing would replace current labels as more information can be stored digitally. Wash icons and also branding is also added.
Description of suggested options and possibilities of RFID labels on clothing; different garments and brands taken into consideration.
The technical bit - how the RFID labels are read by the Hotpoint Digital washing machine.

RFID Clothing Label System
(the clothes tell the washing machine how they should be washed)

The concept was to create a brand new user experience to improve on what is viewed as a mundane chore.
Using simple RFID (radio frequency identification) tags, reprogrammed to hold the clothing wash settings. The clothing labels don't just show the user how to wash them, but also tell the washing machine.

NO MORE PINK SHIRTS!

The washing machine's display will warn you if the current wash load may cause problems, and prevent you from ruining your clothing.
