Carbon fiber has a shaky image. On one hand it's the bones of F1 cars but on the other it's the basis for truly ridiculous products like toilet seats and letter openers. I wanted to create a shoe that celebrated the material by exploiting it's unique characteristics in a way that actually makes sense. Drawing inspiration from high-performance prosthetic limbs I created a concpet I titled "STEMM." I took classes to learn how to lay up carbon fiber and I even wove uncured carbon strands to make the straps. I like the random character of the straps against the highly refined carbon blades. I have some other ideas I'd like to explore but I haven't quite had the time to do so.
