Wheelchairs accompany their users in their whole everyday life and offer facilitation of many activities. Therefore an excellent sitting comfort is mandatory. Many users still prefer unsprung wheelchairs because the spring-loaded types are not well enough adjustable to their specific needs. In the concept study “CaRo” a spiral leaf spring was integrated together with an unsupported hinge, made of carbon fiber laminate. The frame of the wheelchair is very rigid and due to the spiral leaf spring the suspension can be easily adapted to the respective situation by the driver. Hard blows can now be suspended without reducing the driving pleasure.
