snowcoach - This is the developed Mountain rescue variant - my thinking is that the standard snowcoach could be reconfigured at short notice for active rescue duty: demountable pods etc.

snowcoach - Interior colour pallette.

At this initial stage I like to lay out a board with the kinds of materials I'm envisaging, and give them the relative proportions I'm imagining seeing in the finished design - just to see if it all hangs together.

snowcoach - Interior moodboard. Whilst the colour pallette in these images is way too dark, these images outline the kind of crisp architectural feel I'm after for the passenger pods.

snowcoach - . .even at this preliminary stage, this bare-bones data is already enough to let me start playing with moods and background ideas which may guide the look of the final presentation artworks.

I'm after something crisp, dynamic and very wintry . . fun to be doing something in blue for a change . . . .

snowcoach - Very early days - the CAD is only a few hours old, but already I'm wanting to explore graphics and colour... soooo much to do, but doing it all in the public eye could be fun!

snowcoach - With this project I've got a clear idea in my mind that the branding is integrated and developed from the very outset.

I've already got an image burned into my mind of the snowflake graphic draped across the vehicle - punctuating the glasshouse elements of the pods - perhaps frosted onto the glass...

snowcoach - self-set brief: to develop a luxury hire vehicle designed specifically to transport super-rich privateers to their favourite off-piste sikiiing locations: black runs and private slopes. A Learjet for the piste: Hotel lounge meets extreme sports.

snowcoach - Basic geomery to convey the principals of the modular suspension design. Whilst the parallel links would work fine, this pushrod geometry may not be spot-on - but it's enough for now to communicate my intent . . now I've got to start focussing on the interior layout!

snowcoach - This is typical of how I like to begin my projects - a very basic, loose thumbnail sketch which carries the bare bones of the design in terms of proportions, stance and overall character.

At this stage it's super basic, almost cartoony stuff - but its enough of a startpoint for me to start developing the initial 3D CAD proportion model prior to some more sketchwork to develop the details.

Probably no more than 5ish mins to reach this point . .

snowcoach - At this stage in the project, CAD and sketch typically go hand-in-hand: lots of rough doodling over the top of CAD underlays - everything is in the mix.

I'm happy to mix medias, as it usually allows me to explore and develop ideas which perhaps otherwise wouldn't occur to me.

snowcoach - This always feels like the worst bit of the project: you've got the initial concept fairly clear in your head and have finished the basic blocking out. . . at this stage you begin to realise how much work lies ahead to get all the details thrashed out and sucessfully resolved...

snowcoach - This is the basis of the concept - a modular system based around an adaptable chassis, which allows the vehicle to be quickly configured to suit a variety of upland applications.

snowcoach - Quick Showcase test render using work in progress suspension geometry. Looks OK, but will hopefully look a lot more realistic once I've got all the fillets on.

My 2010 edition of this software will arrive at the end of July, so will be able to add raytraced reflections as well - nice!
