These are some works from my thesis. I had chosen superstitions as a theme for my exploration; with an objective to create an imaginary or third world using design to illustrate the imaginary and real worlds. My working methodology was comprised of hand-drawn watercolor illustrations for one group and hand-made paper collages for the second group. My intent with utilizing the hand-made / hand-drawn images was not only to illustrate a tactile quality, but also evoke a stronger message. In addition, photography was introduced to add spatial depth into this illustrative world. Through my thesis exploration, the underlying goal was to create my own imaginary world from the context of superstitions. I then applied images and words from this exploration to a playful and enlightening advertising / packaging strategy for a unique line of Trader Joe’s branded products targeted to the Trader Joe’s customer demographic.
