Hanuman vs. Whale - This piece uses (and even abuses!) a few different, very loaded, mythic, spiritual, and natural bits of symbolism. The whale, often an avatar of nature's wisdom, is seen here transformed into a mechanized implement of disharmony and destruction. Hanuman and the unicorn are both mythological symbols of nobility and purity of motivation. The whale's role is purposeful in that the whale is both a mythical and real creature, possessing psychological symbolism which is comparable to the heroes.
Hanuman vs. Whale: Detail 01 - This is a detail close-up of Hanuman and the unicorn. Notice that I went with the traditionally oversized proportions of Hanuman with the traditionally smaller proportions of pre-Twentieth Century depictions of unicorns (I did not, however, make the unicorn overly goatish).
Hanuman vs. Whale: Detail 02 - This is a close-up detail of the whale. Notice the ironic presence of the harpoon. Corny but fun.
Barbarian Awakens a Monster - This poor fellow simply wanted to rob some ruins of some ancient treasure.
Ugly Emergence - The "holy warrior" comes to the underworld temple to defeat the ancient, inhuman evil. Only to discover that this evil is far larger and uglier than he could imagine.
Ugly Emergence: Detail - A close-up detail of the demon beast showing the texturing and face design.
Backdoor to Heaven - Though well researched, the idea for this piece is so ridiculously convoluted that I'd not want to describe it. That said, I'm still quite happy with the female warrior's pre-Heian Japanese trappings and the depiction of the Fu-Lion.
