"THE MORNING AFTER THE ELECTION" My first political piece...inspired by Governor Romney's proposal to cut funding to PBS.

GILBERT IN A BOX This illustration was inspired by a Howard Stern Show phony phone call in which Gilbert Gottfried's voice was used. As a result I decided to go with a vintage toy theme...the idea to portray him as Jack in The Box was a no-brainer given the type of comedian Gilbert is.

"HAPPY 60th BIRTHDAY ACE!" 1973 - 13.5 x 18 (portrait color study....about 5 hours painting time after the pencil sketch)

PRINCE....."YOU REALLY LIKED IT HUH?" (measurements 21 x25 inches, 53 x 63 cm, 6316 x 7500 pixels) - I'm usually not that big on portraits given my preference for pin-up but this I just could not resist. Besides loving the little guy I thought this screen capture from Prince's 1984 motion picture "Purple Rain" would make for an interesting painting given the colors and lighting...then of course there's the fun you can have with the sunglasses & the hair.

Thanks Dan...I basically wanted to illustrate that notion that Michael Jackson had gone passed the point of no return. Quite effective before his passing & probably even more so afterwards.

This one probably took about 20 to 24 hours. The Les Paul took up 40 to 50% of my time. But for the most part the better the reference photo the faster I can get a painting done.

Thanks...I did this in Photoshop, no filters, no effects...just drawing & painting from start to finish. Actually I would like to recreate this piece but as an oil painting where I can take advantage of those brushstrokes & textures.

No liquifying here, it's all drawing & painting. Sometimes I may resize without constraining proportion, or cut & paste something I already drew, but for the most part I pretty much work as though I were using traditional media. As for any photographs, they are used for reference only nothing more. I also included a step-by-step demo of this piece, as well as the Michael Jackson & Madonna pieces on my Facebook just to show others how they were executed.
