The Crystarium

When craving fruits and vegetables, majority would head to the supermarket. But what if we could get freshly harvested food for immediate consumption? Producing fresh food, right where its eaten, highly reduces its environmental impact, as there is no need for transportation like with the conventional food supply chain.

Located at the Singapore River, the Crystarium reintroduces the production of food into the daily lives of city dwellers, making a more concrete connection between what we consume and the environment required to generate it. There are several high-tech additions such as conveyor systems, supplemental lighting, and aquaponics.

At the Crystarium, freshly harvested vegetables are prepared and sold as salads. Fruits are grown vertically on the structures and on furniture, and guests may pick them for consumption.
