North of the site: historical agricultural use

Roman Fort: ancient legacy, medieval chapel and burial site

Walled Garden: once part of the Braco Estate, with an artificial pond, a true retreat from the retreat

Site Model - The Walled Garden has its own microclimate and is within walking distance from the nearby town Braco.

Building Concept: Materiality - Public Side: Cooking; Dining - polished concrete for floor and whinstone cladding for exterior walls.

Private Side: Bedrooms and Lounge: timber floor and wall surfaces

The unifying element is the thickness of walls, dictated by the decision to use local sheep wool as insulation

Environmental Strategy - Fireplace / Boiler/ Cooker - bespoke device, uses the heat in the flue to increase the temperature of preheated water to 80 degrees.
