How to Build perceived femininity into furniture
Architect Pete Kennon of P.E.K Studio gave Profile the brief to design and build a custom furniture package. A family of products with a soft language throughout the package with a narrative of femininity and japanese culture.
To celebrate Japanese culture and the strong tradition of craft we accentuated the joinery of the stools and chairs with through tenons to the front legs of the chairs and all the stool legs were hand turned to support the perception of femininity by eliminating all square edges.
The chair and tables took inspiration from the shape of the “katana” the famous samurai sword with a gradual arc into a tapered tip. this element was brought into the dining table legs & back legs of the chair.

This project was a true example of how furniture can support the design narrative.
