Design Proposal - VAARTALAAP - Design brief This design idea was inspired from the lack of communication devices/aids for the deaf and mute when interacting with people who did not know how to sign.
Process Flow - The product would be a glove containing the sensors which are connected to the controller via a coaxial cable The controller and the speaker would be combined in a device to be worn on the wrist. The same device would act as the sign to voice convertor when set to talking mode, and voice to text convertor when set to listening mode. There would be a button on the device to switch between these modes.
GUI and Wrist device details - There would also be a screen to display the text. The device would also have an inbuilt database of sign languages which you could select from since different regions have different signs. The device would have a USB port for you to connect it to a laptop/PC for uploading the database. The device would also allow the user the select who he wants to sound like (eg. arnold, amitabh )
Working - Design Application : - Schools / Colleges - Workplace - Public places - When travelling to new places - Normal day-to-day interactions - Helps deaf and mute parents in communicating with their kids
Hardware Details
Software Details - The first three for a part of the gloves , the others are a part of the wrist device.
Design Proposal - BOLI - This design idea serves to aid the deaf and mute community in learning how to speak , beginning with the basics. Currently this is primarily done by speech therapists and is a very challenging task for both the parties.

Product design - Products for the Hearing and Speech Impaired

This project was a part of a course on Universal Design.
Each person was required to research the disability assigned - in my case it was speech and hearing impairment, and come up with a design concept.
