Final Prototype Materials/ Fabrication Cordura nylon, polyethylene stiffeners, Scotchlite reflective tape, elastic shock cord, and powder-coated steel hooks. The aerodynamically curved panels of this luggage piece compliment the lines of contemporary motorcycles. Hidden side gussets in contrasting accent colors allow the pack to expand to nearly double in height. At that point, the bag assumes a shape that will securely cradle any full-face helmet.

This catalog shot illustrates the seatpack and saddlepacks set up as a coordinated unit.

P-38 MOTORCYCLE SADDLEPACKS - In-house Design, Eclipse, Inc. Materials/ Fabrication: Cordura nylon, foam stiffeners, Scotchlite reflective tape, Nylon webbing, and powder-coated steel brackets. The bags have a tapered profile that echoes the bodywork of contemporary sport motorcycles. Because of the small size of the bags, simple foam stiffeners maintain the pack's shape when empty. These stiffeners enable the packs to conform to the contours of the motorcycle, with a smooth fit and minimal wear.

ECLIPSE ELECTRIC VEST - In-house Design, Eclipse, Inc. Catalog shot, production vest The concept for electrically heated motorcycle touring garments is based on the legendary Blue Bunny heated suits issued to bomber crews during WWII. In this case, electric current to heat the vest comes from the motorcycle alternator and runs through resistance wiring, much like that found in electric blankets.

QUANTUM II TEMPERATURE CONTROL - Client: Eclipse, Inc. Appearance model, AutoCAD Drawing Materials / Fabrication: Injection-molded engineering plastics and polycarbonate, Santoprene, neoprene seals, bimetal thermostat, stainless steel fasteners. The compact, in-line configuration and spring-loaded belt clip allow this control to be worn as a technical fashion accessory for the client's line of electric clothes. Designed to be manipulated while wearing padded gloves.

QUANTUM II ELECTRIC GARMENT CONTROL CLOSE-UP - The control knob incorporates a translucent red power light evocative of an aircraft nose cone. This shape allows the rider to read the indicator from a wide viewing angle. The oversize strain-reliefs at the top of the unit highlight the recreational nature of the product and hint at the robust construction inside.

ELITE MAGNETIC TANKBAG - In-house Design, Eclipse, Inc. Materials/ Fabrication: Cordura nylon, polyethylene stiffeners, Scotchlite reflective tape, Nylon webbing, thermo-sealed vinyl, and Nitrile coated nylon. This tankbag utilizes an array of nine 2" ceramic magnets to adhere to steel gas tanks. The major design challenge was to provide a secure mount that would be impervious to fuel damage and still provide maximum protection for the tank finish.

LONG RIDER ABILENE HIGHWAY SADDLE BAGS - In-house Design, Eclipse, Inc. Materials/ Fabrication: Cordura nylon, Leathertek, leather, poly and aluminum stiffeners, nickel-plated hardware. The Long Rider collection was targeted at the Japanese cruiser market, populated by older sport-bike riders familiar with the Eclipse brand. The line combined the functionality of contemporary touring luggage with the style of traditional cruiser bags, providing improvements in weather resistance, cargo organization, and mounting systems.
