Chevy Impala - Ive been working on illustrator pretty much non stop at work for the past few months, so i thought id see how artistic you can get with it. This is all vectors, no photoshop and just a couple of the stock brushes. Please zoom in!
V16 street rod - Started building up the engine here first, based on the one from the Cadillac Sixteen concept. I then sketched a thirties chevy style car over the top and filled the gaps. Once again all vectors. PLEASE ZOOM! Copyright Michael Gillett 2011
Ford GT concept - Finally added some colour to a sketch i did about six months ago. I even started building an Alias model of it. If anyone wants to finish it, let me know! All done on illustrator, all vectors. Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
Scania R concept - I saw this image in my head a while ago, and decided to spend some time trying to create it. A near future Scania R series update. Zoom in for more detail. All images Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
VW beetle - Extending the idea of the Starliner illustration from a couple years back, ive found its a lot easier to get the same affect on Illustrator! All images copyright Michael Gillett 2011, No reproduction without permission.
Luxury car concept - No brand, but the brown keeps making me think 70s Cadillac... but the style harks back to more european 30s design, especially the fin! First illustration ive done with my new Wacom. PLEASE ZOOM! Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
Land Rover coupe concept sketch - I dont usually do SUVs... had some fun doing this though. Wasnt meant to be a LR, just the headlamp shape that kind of put it in motion. PLEASE ZOOM! Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
Mustang concept line drawing teaser - Mustang concept, harking back to the style of the '69 model. Really love doing front end drawings - mirror functions make using digital drawing methods such a blast! This is just a teaser, hoping to add colour over the easter holidays. PLEASE ZOOM! Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
Mustang concept - Mustang concept, harking back to the style of the '69 model. Really love doing front end drawings - mirror functions make using digital drawing methods such a blast! This is the previous image, with a splash of colour, some graphics and a 429 V8 showing through the plexi hood piece. PLEASE ZOOM! Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
1949 Ford - Quite a quick fire exercise to test out a few brushes and what can be achieved with them, combining blur effects and lots of opacity changes. Not too happy with the outcome, but its ok. Although this particular model isnt one of my favourite cars of all time, i think it is one of the most beautifully designed. After the bulging fender shapes but before the big fins, and with the airplane nose sticking through the grille. Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
The stealth coupe - Cross between a shelby daytona and a stealth plane. Loved this as soon as i came up with it, just couldnt get any wheels to work after trying over forty designs. Thanks to Gurmukh Singh Sagoo for his help! Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
1951 Chevrolet Fleetline - Started and finished this while trying to work on wheels for the stealth coupe. Was going to have a lot more chrome and big carbs poking through the hood but i prefered it like this. First flames ive tried on illustrator too! Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
Soft-roader sketch - After a couple of weeks of designers block i ended up just scribbling this down in about ten minutes. Made it a nice blue shade with some chalk brushes and added some crosshatching to keep it looking quick fire. Quite a fun quick scribble!
SATC Coupe - Well im pretty pleased with this one! Wasnt what i was expecting when i started but i really enjoyed creating the two different highlights and playing with some of the shapes on the vehicle. Definately got an eighties, airbrushing feel... Please ZOOM! Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
Compact track car - Kind of supercar pieces on a compact size vehicle. I can imagine it either twin engine'd or some sort of alternative hybrid propulsion... Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
Triumph Dolomite - These cars are very underrated. Removing the front lamps that sit under the bumper and relocating the indicators inside the headlamps or hidden in the grille makes it look a lot more aggressive. Slam it on some Torq thrust inspired wheels and add a seventies style splitter and overriders... the two door conversion would take a lot more effort though. Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
1932 Ford - A fun street rod project, with some super skinnies up front and low lamps. Modern bodywork with an older style wheel and paint scheme. Please zoom! Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
1932 Ford (cutaway) - Part way through doing the previous image i started drawing up an engine, and eventually pieced together this illustration of the same vehicle. Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
C10 Skyline - Kept this pretty simple, once again no wheel detail, wanted to work on reflections and bodywork on this one. Ended up with a bit of a clean, street rod look. Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
Vauxhall Astra van - These are very common across Europe, as white vans, police cars and even taxis in their estate form. Fit a VXR front bumper, cut short to allow an extra low ride height, fit some JDM style bolt on arches and a splitter, and give it a lairy 80s paint job - instant saturday cruiser! Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am - I tried a few new techiniques on this, and im very pleased with how it came out. Its fairly stock, removed the eagle graphics and lowered it a bit on some satin grey five spokes. Very mean looking car, ive tried to accentuate it with the addition of some suitable late seventies graphics. Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
2011 Ford Focus hot rod - Shortage of original thirties Ford tin? Heres an idea which still uses bona fide Ford metal, in this case a 2011 Ford Focus. These bodies have a very sleek roofline out of the factory, so a chop isnt necessary, but I layed it over a familiar box section deuce style frame. Powerplant is a brand new Ford 302 crate engine. Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.

2012 Pontiac Firebird - A very quick (one hour max) scribble i did while working on a bigger project. Revival of the pontiac brand with a new firebird, competing against the other modern muscle revivals like the challenger, new mustang and camaro. Not a lot of effort and nothing too wild, but good fun. Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission
1962 Chevrolet Impala - Really pleased with this - spent a lot more time than usual getting the reflections and high/low lights working well on the car, then put together a bit of a sixties film poster and car advert inspired background. Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission
1950 Chevrolet - I was so happy with the look and format of the '62 that i carried it over onto this drawing. Love the shape of the early fifties Chevys - this has the lines cleaned up, and lamps mounted under the trunk for a more upmarket look. Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission
1967 Cadillac Eldorado - This is a near copy of a photo, experimenting with shadows and shading techniques on illustrator. Im particularly happy with the interior... Same image format as the previous two illustrations, this is more of a centre-piece. Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission
Supervan Revival - '72 Chevy Van - Ive always loved the 70s custom van scene - muscle car inspiration with some practicality and a few stripes thrown in for good measure. This scene must be due for a revival soon! I really enjoyed getting the colours sorted on this image. Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission
Mercedes W123 - I did these two quick drawings for a Bosozoku competition on a car site. Its pretty mild compared to other cars of this style (an extreme Japanese car culture for those unaware...), i think its quite a good look! Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission

1971 Dodge Challenger - As much as i love Challengers in Vanishing Point white, seventies yellow just pops off the page better! The later '71 model had a nicer grille and hood vents, but ive removed the splitter and rear wing, cleaned the lines and lowered it over some suitable five spokes... 1960 Ford Starliner - I seem to be drawn to this model Starliner. Ive done a drawing of it, in a high contrast green at least three times now (one of these in my 2009 folder on here...). Its one of my favourite finned motors from that period. Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
Audi Concept Face - I did this quick sketch after a look at photos from IAA'11, and looking at how companies such as Audi are covering up more of their grilles for the eco models (giving an older, aircooled look face in some cases) but still keeping the family face with graphics. Heres the A2 concept front end on an A7-sized vehicle. Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
1956 Chevy - I enjoyed trying something different with this Two Lane Blacktop/American Graffiti inspired '56 gasser image. I used to work in a more impressionist style at college, but that was a while ago. It was a great fun, quick project though! Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission
Mercedes Supercar Concept - Just a quickie - a mix between the more modern slr/sls look, but with the body shape of the C111/112 supercars. Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission
Barn Find - I wanted to do something like this as soon as i started playing with the brushes on the '56 Chevy. One of my ultimate cars, a model A, in the impressionist style i love, with a dimly lit industrial background lit only from a dingy window... i certainly enjoyd this one! Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission
1975 VW Polo / Audi 50 - I realised I hadn't done a watercooled vw in quite a while, so decided to do my favourite, the mk1 polo. Ive dropped it on some fuch style wheels taking influences from the aircooled vw scene. The rest is more muscle car inspired - bumpers off and duckbill added, lines cleaned up, and bright orange paint with a black side stripe to finish. When I get bored I sketch Mustangs... - Mini scribbles Ive made in recent months that ive collected... none are all that great, so they'll stay scribbles. But to proove that i do still work with pen and paper after a year of putting up only digital work! Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission
Deco - esque 2 seater sketches - More warm up sketches, variations on a long-hooded two seater theme, with thirties inspirations. Lots of covered wheels, including partly covered steering wheel spats up front! Copyright Michael Gillett 2011, no reproduction without permission.
