Hornet Life Exhibition - Hornet Life presents the complete life cycle of hornets in an environment designed to immerse the audience in the life of a hornet. The space is divided into sections on the queen, the nest, metamorphosis, and hibernation and death. As the visitor moves through the space he is confronted with oversized insects, pupa, larva, and nests that impose in the space above the viewers head. The grass texture of the floor reemphasizes the scale of the visitor to be similar to that of a hornet.
Simplicity to Complexity-Form Studies - Are simplicity and complexity different things or is one based upon the other? Is it possible to generate a complex system from simple forms? I investigated how elemental geometric forms that are understood as simple could be combined into increasingly complicated objects. All based on the grid, repeated wood forms are joined with elastic to create fluid forms from rigid lines. Interaction with the objects creates further complexity as each user can redefine the object’s meaning.
Hinged Play Blocks - This object was inspired by the amount of time it takes a child to clean up a game of blocks and the number of pieces lost under the sofa. Unlike other block toys it can be left displayed in the living space because of the sculptural form. IT is a kinetic toy for children and is sophisticated enough for adults to enjoy.
Rapid Prototype - This hinged, convertible model was generated by first creating a digital model using Autodesk Maya. The digital files were then translated into a physical object using rapid prototype printing in ABS plastic. The design uses a trapped hinge and compound curves which take advantage of the printer’s capabilities. The interior sections have curved ends for free movement. The interior pieces have extended edges which causes the pieces to catch each other while being extended.
Graphic Design Newsletter - Featuring a tear-out section Mohawk Paper Company’s newsletter is creating a more interactive experience for the reader. With an overall airplane theme the newsletter insures that it makes a longer impact on the reader with company information printed on the tear out plane complete with folding instructions and day and night backdrop.
Journey Exhibition - Taking a visitor on a journey is the intention of this exhibit. Based on traveling by plane to Chicago, Miami, Caracas and Rio the visitor enters into a highly directed circulation path. The exhibit is meant to jump scales from walking thought the plane looking out on the earth from afar, to viewing the skyline of Chicago from Lake Michigan, to looking at a miniature city of Caracas at shoulder height and emerging onto the board walk of Rio De Janeiro to end the journey.
Exhibition Design for Red Grooms Kiosk - Red Grooms, an American artist, is the subject and inspiration for this kiosk exhibition. The robber character and materials, corrugated cardboard, packaging tubes, and fabric were selected to reflect Groom’s work while not imitating it. To make the display interactive, I used a crank in the legs so that the audience could make the robber run. All the information on the artist is printed on the oversized dollar bills that are spilling out of the money bag clutched in the robber’s hand.
