Tensegrity Bamboo Bike, prototype year 1997 - Bamboo bicycle development with its frame based on "Tensegrity", a cable tension system. Project done from 1995 to 1998 and presented at Bamboo annual Congress 1996-1998. This was my final project for my Bachelor in Industrial Design in 1999 at PUC-Rio, Brazil.

Tensegrity Bamboo Bike, tensioning cables study, year 1995 - The idea of combining bamboo with tensegrity in a bicycle frame came after two main theoretical points. One is that you subject the bamboo tubes to compression strength, in that way alleviating and distributing the forces, once concentrated on the joints, along the bamboo tube axle. The second is that in relation to maintenance, if there is a need for bamboo tubes replacement for ex. the frame could be disassembled and that done. What could be interesting to have the option.
