    3D Retail Designer

    Toronto, ON

With over ten years of experience working with agencies, brand names and retailers, I understand how to take the essence of a brand and with the use of form, scale, and materials extend it into a store environment to produce an eye-catching and cost-effective product ambassador. My highly creative thinking and strong sketching technique allow me to quickly and accurately convey design ideas that I further develop with 3D modelling and rendering software.

Work History

Retail Design Consultant September 2008 - Present Working from a small office on King Street in Toronto I have been consulting with the likes of The Bay, Walmart Canada and Adidas. I also work with a variety of smaller manufacturing shops and agencies when they have a need for some well thought out in-store solutions. Sapo Creative Studios Partner November 2004 -August 2008 Toronto, Canada Partnering with a graphic design colleague we set about starting out own small creative agency using our knowledge & contacts in the retail industry in Canada. Acting as the lead designer, sales man, accountant and employer I worked on many projects and oversaw the growth of the company from nothing to an annual income of over $750,000 and a client list that included Nokia Canada, Companys Coming & Cargo Cosmetics. Running a business, however, kept me away far too often from the design work that I thrive on and so I decided to walk away from the business and concentrate on my passion for design. Pigeon Branding and Design Senior Designer June 2004 - November 2004 (6 month contract) Oakville, Canada Working closely with the Design Director I was bought in mainly to lend my 3D design and manufacturing expertise to retail projects which weren’t necessarily covered by the talents of the company. Working with clients and suppliers I have been instrumental in bringing forward major projects to completion with a keen understanding of it’s manufacturability and cost. I have played a key role in the conceptualisation of other 3D projects at the company that include packaging & other industrial design related products. NS Studios Creative Designer September 2003 - May 2004 Toronto, Canada Employed primarily as a creative, responsibilities encompass all the conceptual stages of a project, often with close liaison with development managers to ensure design continuity throughout a project. Hand sketches and ultimately 3D computer generated renderings are used to illustrate designs for projects mainly for department store clients. Creative Displayworks Inc. Designer February 2001 - August 2003 Toronto, Canada This young P.O.P company used a slick creative process and presentation as it’s main selling point. Computer generated renderings as well as back up hand sketch work was used to impress a variety of brand names such as Nokia, Nike and Spalding. Although not directly involved in the development of projects it was a responsibility to ensure exciting creative ideas were adhered to during prototype and manufacturing. Kleerex Designer January 1999 - February 2001 Harlow, England A culture of project responsibility at this mid-sized POP and fixture manufacturing company meant that all aspects of the design process had to be produced and managed myself. After the initial brief was taken a presentation of ideas was created with the use of hand renderings and 2D computer software. Technical drawings followed in the development of a design and included the responsibility to oversee and manage the prototyping phase of the project. My knowledge of manufacturing processes is extensive through working on projects involving vacuum forming, injection molding, woodwork, acrylic fabrication and metal fabrication. Clients included all of the major supermarket retailers such as Marks and Spencers and multi-nationals such as United Distillers and Vinters owners of the Guinness and Southern Comfort brands. Benchmark Fabrications Ltd Junior Designer September 1997 - January 1999 Letchworth, England As one of two designers my job entailed taking design briefs from clients and sales person, visualising ideas using traditional hand rendering techniques and using CAD to produce fully specified technical drawings for anything from simple shelving systems to high quality cosmetics displays. Clients included many of the British high street retailers and brands including Harrods, Tesco and News International.
