original 1st floor plan - I immediately wanted to open the space up to let more light in and create a more indoor/outdoor living space within very constrictive perimeters. There were odd sight lines: front door opened just to the right of main aisle with bathroom door at opposite end was just one issue. There were structural walls and columns that could not be moved. I wanted to retain certain traditional elements by keeping the beadboard and coffered ceiling but all else was stripped and opened up.

remodeled 2nd floor plan - Using a 2nd level loft like approach, skylights were added with the use of clear story windows and translucent doors to aid in the transferance of light throughout top floor and down through stairwell. Reclaimed wood for in wall storage paneling and modular systems was used to contrast against white walls and exposed beams. While the lower floor uses whimsical wallpaper, fixtures and textiles, the upper floor is about liner, clean line and the play of light on natural materials.
