My work focuses on what makes fashion a fine art. For this project I researched both fine artists and fashion designers in order to make my garment. Ultimately I focused on Atsuko Goto, a Japanese painter, and Alexander McQueen and discovered that they both explore the connection between humans and nature –which led me to consider this connection for my garment. I decided to explore the relationship between nature and humans in terms of decay, death and regeneration. From there I focuses closely at the life cycle of a butterfly and wanted to show that through my garment. I used sheer fabric to help portray the cocoon cycle and the butterfly. Once the sheer cloak is removed it reveal a butterfly inspired dress.
