Helping to align the vision of the designers with the capabilities of the factories and the identity of the brand. Duties include: frequent trips to China, about 1 month of every year. Overseeing CAD work by designers and factory to ensure it’s manufacturable, durable, and cost efficient. Extensive knowledge of injection molding, die-casting, sheet metal fabrication, bristling, foam forming, compression molding, and extrusion blow molding. Communication
via basic sketching of ideas. Selection of materials and manufacturing processes by rigorous robotic cycle testing and user testing next to competitive products. Helped the Strategic team break into new markets such as cell phone chargers, trash, candela lighting, and kids products. Development of the flagship item for the new OXO tot category launch. Ensured the new Sprout High Chair met strict ASTM child safety standards. Ensured electrical products met UL standards. Helped to revamp our line with a fresh look while on the Cleaning Team. Recent promotion to Team Lead Engineer on the Food Storage team requires training of new engineers, and input on overall company process changes. Helped to create company-wide standard for minimum acceptable tooling requirements. And is now helping to start OXO’s first ever internal Design Team.
Industrial Designer for furniture company with licensing for companies such as Target. Helped to execute the largest product launch in Target’s history. Duties included: translating designer’s concepts to be manufacturable, 3D modeling and rendering, 2D technical drawing, photography, and communication with licensing partners and manufacturers.
Freelance Product Design Engineer for advertising and branding company. Added value to branded assets through proprietary product inventions. Duties included: engineering research, Solidworks parametric modeling, FDM prototyping for pitching new ideas to prospective clients.
Product Design Engineer for toy brand and architectural dynamic sculpture. Duties included: everything in the design process from concept generation to manufacturing engineering of transforming mechanisms, CAD of both parametric and complex surfaces models, mechanical design and styling of injection molded plastic toys, design and fabrication of prototypes, working within licensor parameters, communication with factory in China, computer rendering for packaging, and working within infant safety standards.
